Ring in a New Year…Please! Catering ideas for all ages
With the turning of the calendar to 2021, everyone is looking to celebrate new beginnings or at least put 2020 to rest. Even with social distancing requiring small gatherings this year, you can still have some fun with food that still allows people to keep their distance while enjoying each other’s company!
Here are just a few ideas that we might suggest for a New Year’s gathering.
Meatballs with grape jelly and mustard sauce-so simple but so good. It’s a crowd-pleasing favorite no matter how big or small the group. You can buy your own meatballs (buy the frozen ones or vegan if that’s your preference.). Put a small-sized jar of grape jelly and three teaspoons of dijon mustard with the meatballs into a slow cooker. If you want a bit more “zing”, add a little bit of chili sauce.
Another idea is to have a bit of a Mexican flare! A taco bar with soft and hard taco shells with homegrown, local beef seasoned with Mexican spices and shredded locally-sourced chicken sauteed with onions and peppers for fajitas. Complete the taco bar with all the fixings such as guacamole, queso, shredded cheese, limes, refried beans, and whatever else you want!
Another suggestion is “comfort food with a twist.” A mashed potato bar with creamy mashed Yukon Gold potatoes with heavy cream, cream cheese, and butter. Serve this in martini glasses with an assortment of toppings like chopped brisket, pulled pork, candied bacon, shredded cheeses, sour cream, chives, and again, whatever you and your guests love!
We can’t have a great party without tasty drinks. We recommend a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that will delight many of all ages!
Rosemary Orange Spritzers complete with fresh-squeezed orange juice, homegrown rosemary, sugar, lemon juice, and club soda is yum!
We also recommend Cranberry-Cherry Punch:
- Dissolve a 3-ounce package of cherry gelatin in 1 cup boiling water
- Add 3 cups of cold water and 6 cups of chilled cranberry juice and a small container of thawed lemonade concentrate.
- Just before serving, add 1 liter of Sprite or 7-UP
- This makes 3 quarts.
We would love to help you with catering your gatherings, giving you one less thing to worry about. And, of course, we do all our menus custom to your needs!
